#3 is a surprise to me, I guess I assumed that water-soluble vitamins were more or less universally safe at any dose. 50 mg/kg every 6 hours is a simply massive amount though, right?
That is a massive dose, yeah! But previous trials, which were small, also used high doses of Vitamin C to treat sepsis and claimed to find a benefit. Here's an example of a review of those older studies, which was very positive about them: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7070236/ The main trial they mention used the same dose as in this study.
